Are you paying the National Minimum Wage Correctly?

HMRC send letters to the Arts and Leisure sector

The UK's HM Revenue & Customs is writing to employers in the Arts and Leisure sector warning that National Minimum Wage / National Living Wage calculations must be correct. Some employers may find it difficult to work out the correct rate of pay, especially for a workforce that might include apprentices, interns, volunteers and freelancers.

HMRC suggest that any underpayments can be corrected, and records updated on a voluntary basis. If action is taken now, HMRC promises that no penalties will be levied.

Audit visits are promised in the future, with penalties of 200% of any underpayments. If you are unsure about whether the National Minimum Wage or the National Living Wage applies to you, or you would like to check your calculations, please contact us.
