Charity Law + Best Practice

We work with many different third sector organisations including those in the creative and cultural industries and those in the heritage and education sectors.  We understand the needs, challenges and realities of the sector. We’re friendly, approachable and able to help you with whatever question you want to throw at us.

We provide advice and guidance on a range of legal, regulatory and governance issues. We can assist with contracts, mergers, incorporations, employment, fundraising, lease reviews, commercial and business contracts, data protection and intellectual property. We can also assist with disputes.

We’re not always desk based and often work closely with our clients to help them find ways to thrive. Keith Arrowsmith regularly contributes to workshops, planning days and conferences, and he also provides training. He is a visiting lecturer on the Clore Leadership Programme and researches the effect of the charity governance codes.

Some recent examples of our work include:

  • Providing governance advice to a large charitable art gallery following a board review
  • Incorporating a charity to oversee a major cultural investment programme
  • Drafting a suite of employment contracts and employee handbook for an arts charity
  • Converting Registered Societies to charitable companies
  • Registering trade marks for a charitable organisation following a rebrand
  • Updating a charitable museum’s governance to ensure readiness for financial investment
  • Providing trustee training and support to student unions
  • Charity formations, incorporations and registrations
  • Mergers and closures
  • Fundraising, grants and donations
  • Contracts, employment law and service provision
